75th Indian Army Day 2023 Observed on 15 January: Nation will observe the 75th Indian Army Day here on 15th January 2023. This day is observed to mark the achievements of the 1st Indian Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army K.M Cariappa (then the Lieutenant General). Chief of the Indian Army Gen. Manoj Pande attend the 75th Indian Army Day Celebrations which was conducted for the 1st time in Bengaluru parade ground.
75th Indian Army Day 2023 Observed on 15 January: History
- The Indian Army was officially formed on 1 April 1895 under the British rule. In 1949, the Britishers appointed Francis Butcher as the 1st General Chief of the British Army.
- But later on 15 January 1949 Francis Butcher relinquished the post of General Chief and then K.M Cariappa was appointed as the 1st Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army becoming the 1st Commander-in-Chief after Independence.
- Cariappa was the first Field Marshal to be given the five-star rank of Field Marshal.
- This year, for the 1st time the parade is organized outside Delhi.
- The Army Day is being conducted out of the national capital for the first time as part of the government’s initiative to take major events away from the National Capital Region to different parts of the country
