Amit Shah Chaired the 38th Meeting of Committee of Parliament on Official Language:

The Union Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah chaired the 38th “Committee of Parliament on Official Language” meeting in New Delhi. During the meeting, the 12th volume of the report of the Committee of Parliament on Official Languages was also approved with the theme “Simplification” and later will be presented to the President of India.

Addressing the meeting, Amit Shah said that during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the PM Modi has presented his vision of “Panch Pran” to the nation of which the first two pran are the respect of heritage and ending the slavery from the  British rule . The 100% achievement of these two pran is incomplete without the respect of local languages and the official language Hindi.

Hindi is not in competition with the local languages, the nation will be empowered only by promoting all Indian languages. He said that acceptance of official language does not come from any laws or notices, but from goodwill, efforts.

About the Committee

  • The Committee on Parliament on Official Language was established in the year 1976 under the section 4 of “The Official Language Act, 1963.
  • The committee is chaired by the Union Home Minister and 30 members – 20 MP’s from Lok Sabha and 10 MP’s from Rajya Sabha.
  • According to this act, the panel submit its report to the President who then cause to be laid before Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and then sent it to all the State Governments.
  • The function of this committee is to assess the use of Hindi language for official purposes and the promote the language on the global platform.
  • The committee first submitted its report in 1987.
