A Professor of Mathematics in New York Denis S Sullivan received the Abel Prize 2022 for work in topology, the study of space and shapes.

Argentinian born Luis Caffarelli wins the 2023 Abel Prize: Important Points
- The Abel Prize is a prize awarded annually by the King of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians.
- It is named after Norwegian Mathematician Niels- Henrick Abel (1802-1829).
- The Abel prize is accompanied by 7.5 million Norwegian kroner, or about $700,000.
- Luis Caffarelli, 74, has received the Abel prize for his work on partial differential equations involving continuous change that are used by scientists to model the natural world.
- Caffarelli was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) making him the first Abel laureate from South America. He is currently a professor at the University of Texas at Austin.
