Asian Para Games 2023 medals tally: The major sporting event for the asian athletes with physical disabilities, also known as the Asian Para Games finally comes to an end on 28th October 2023 followed by a closing ceremony. The 4th edition of “Asian Para Games 2023” was held in Hangzhou, China from 22 to 28 October 2023. Indian para athletes finished their campaign in 5th position with a record 111 medals including 29 Gold, 31 Silver and 51 Bronze.

This is the best-ever medal tally by the Indian contingents in the history of Asian Para Games surpassing the previous record of 72 medals (G-15, S-25 & B-33) from the 2018 edition.

Important Highlights

  • The event was held in Hangzhou, China from 22 to 28 October 2023. The Indian para atheletes showed their best-ever performance in the history of ASEAN Para Games grabbing 111 medals surpassing their previous best of 72 medals haul.
  • India has sent its 303 atheles including 191 men and 112 women to the 4th Asian Para Games 2023 making it the country’s largest contingent ever.
  • Apart from the medals, Indian para athletes also broke three records including two in Javelin Throw and one in Athletics.
  • Indian Men’s Javelin Thrower Sumit Antil set a new record in F64 discipline with a 73.29m atttempt while Gurjar Sundar Singh with a gold medal-winning throw of 68.60m effort in F46 discipline.
  • The 16-year-old armless archer Sheetal Devi became the first Indian women to win two gold medals in the same edition of the Asian Para Games.
  • Indian athlete Ankur Dhama became the first Indian men to win two gold medals in the same edition of the Para Games.
  • Indian shuttlers contributed the second most medal with 21, chess and archery gave eight and seven medals respectively while shooting contributed six.
  • India finished their campaign in the 5th place while the hosts China topped the table with 521 medals (G-214, S-167 & B-140).
