Bombay Jayshree selected for 2023 Sangita Kalanidhi Award: Carnatic vocalist, Bombay Jayshree has been conferred with the “Sangita Kalanidhi Award 2023” by the Music Academy, Chennai. In a press release, the Music Academy said, Jayshree is one of the foremost among today’s Carnatic musicians, who started training under her parents and later under TR Balamani and violin maestro Lalgudi G Jayaraman. Besides Carnatic music, she is also trained in the Hindustani music and classical dance. She was also awarded with the India’s fourth highest award “Padma Shri” in 2021.

  • The Music Academy announced that the “Nritya Kalanidhi Award 2023” will be conferred to Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer Vasanthalakshmi Narasimhachari.
  • The “Sangita Kala Acharya” award will be conferred to Carnatic vocalist Palkulangara Ambika Devi from Kerala and Mridangam player KS Kalidas.
  • Noted thavil player Thirunageswaram TR Subramaniam and Sangunatha Odhuvar has been chosen for the “TTK award”.
  • A researcher in the filed of Classical Music, dance theatre and Classical Tamil literature, Dr Arimalam S Padmanabhan, will be conferred with the “Musicologist Award”. 

About Sangeet Kalanidhi Award

  • Sangita Kalanidhi Award is considered as the prestigious award given yearly in the field of Carnatic music by the Madras Music Academy.  
  • The first awardee were the Musicologists T.V Subba Rao & M.S Ramaswamy Iyer in the year 1929.
  • The award consist of Gold medal and a birudu patra (Citation).
  • It is the landmark institution in the history of fine arts.
  • It emerged as an offshoot in the All India Congress session held in Madras in December 1927.
