Khelo India Youth Games 2023: Maharashtra with a total tally of 161 medals emerged as the winners of 5th edition of the “Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2023” held in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). This year’s of KIYG was held in Madhya Pradesh from 30 January to 11 February 2023. Maharashtra’s tally of 161 comprises of 56 golds, 55 silvers and 50 bronze medals. Haryana emerged as the runners-up with 128 medals (41 golds, 32 silvers and 55 bronze) followed by the host Madhya Pradesh with 96 medals. This is the third title of Maharashtra in this event with the other two came back in 2019 and 2020 editions. 2023 khelo india youth games.

Key Highlights
- “Asha” (a Cheetah) was the official mascot while “Hindustan Ka Dil Dhadka Do” was the official anthem of this year’s Khelo India Youth Games.
- KIYG 2023 started on January 30 with eight cities from Madhya Pradesh – Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Maheshwar, Balaghat, Mandla, Jabalpur and Gwalior – hosting the events.
- Only the track cycling events were held outside the state in the national capital New Delhi.
- This edition of the Khelo India Youth Games saw the entry of new sports like Fencing and water sports like kayaking and water canoeing for the 1st time in Khelo India Youth Games 2023.
- Bollywood actor R. Madhavan’s son Vedaant Madhavan won 5 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals making a total of 7 medals in the Khelo India Youth Games 2023.

- Khelo India Youth Games (formerly known as Khelo India School Games) are the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India held in January or February for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students.
- Prime Minister, Narendra Modi inaugurated Khelo India School Games on 31 January 2018 at the ceremony based on Guru Shishya Tradition held at Indira Gandhi Arena (Delhi). From 2019 edition of the event, the game was renamed as “Khelo India Youth Games”.
