Praveen Kumar Srivastava becomes the 21st acting Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of India here on Wednesday.

Mr. Srivastava appointed as 21st acting CVC of : The officials here on Wednesday said that the Vigilance Commissioner Mr. Praveen Kumar Srivastava appointed as the new acting Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of India. Praveen Kumar Srivastava is a 1988-retired IAS officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He will replace Suresh N. Patel whose term as the chief of the anti-corruption watchdog Central Vigilance Commission on 24 December. Besides Mr. Srivastava, former Chief of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Arvind Kumar is the other Vigilance Commissioner.

About Praveen Kumar Srivastava

  • Mr. Srivastava is a retired IAS officer of 1988 batch from Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He superannuated as Secretary (Coordination), Cabinet Secretariat on 31 January 2022.
  • During his tenure as Special Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, he had handled matters relating to cadre management of Indian Police Services (IAS) and many others.
  • Mr. Srivastava also assisted the government in negotiations relating to trade in services under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as Director/Deputy Secretary, Department of Commerce.
  • Mr. Srivastava will replace Suresh N. Patel whose term as an Chief of Central Vigilance Commission comes to an end on 24 December.

About Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of India

  • The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) was set up by the Indian Government on 11 February 1964 on the recommendations of the committee headed by the Shri K. Santhanam to advise the govt. in the field of corruptions.
  • This committee consists of the Prime Minister , the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Union Home Minister.
  • A Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) is appointed by the President of India.
  • It was made a Statutory body by the ordinance issued by the President of India on 1988 and later the ordinance was replaced by the Central Vigilance Commission Act 2003.
  • The tenure of a CVC is 4 years or 65 years which ever is earlier.
  • A Central Vigilance Commissioner consists of 3 members: 1)Chief CVC 2) Two Vigilance Commissioner
  • The first Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of India was Nittoor Srinivasa Rau.
