Odisha wins World Habitat Awards 2023 for JAGA Mission: Odisha government’s world’s largest slum upgradation and land titling programme JAGA (Odisha Liveable Habitat Mission) Mission has won the prestigious UN Habitat’s World Habitat Awards 2023. This year, it was awarded the Bronze medal. 2 Gold winners, 2 Silver Awards, and 6 Bronze Awards winners have been listed this year. Every year this award is given by World Habitat in collaboration with the United Nation (UN) Habitat.

Odisha wins World Habitat Awards 2023 for JAGA Mission: About JAGA Mission
- The Odisha Government launched the JAGA Mission in May 2018 based on the “Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Act. 2017”
- This initiative by Odisha govt. is the World’s largest initiative that focuses on the development of the slum dwellers and the land titling.
- It aims to make Odisha the 1st Indian state to be slum free by the end of 2023.
Achievements of the Mission
- According to the Odisha govt, there are 2,919 slums under the JAGA Mission.
- 100% households in 2,714 slums have been provided with pipe-water connection.
- 100% individual toilets have been provided to the 666 slums with 8 cities referred as slum-free.
