Parakram Diwas 2023: The nation celebrates Parakram Diwas 2023 or Netaji Jayanti on 23 January 2023 to pay tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of the most prominent leader and revolutionary Indian freedom fighter . Parakram Diwas 2023: Key Highlights

  • Prime Minister Modi will name the 21 unnamed Islands of Andaman & Nicobar after the 21 Param Vir Chakra Winners during the event held in  Port Blair. PM Modi will participate in the event via video conferencing.
  • He said that naming of these 21 Islands will give a strong message of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.” A message of the sacrifices and unmatchable Bravery and Valour of the Indian Soldiers.
  • PM Modi will also unveil the model of National Museum which is dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep in Andaman and Nicobar.
  • In his earlier trip to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2018, he renamed Ross Island to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island/Dweep.
  • For the 1st time, the entire nation celebrates Parakram Diwas on 23 January 2021 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
  • The purpose of Parakram Diwas is to develop a sense of patriotism in the hearts younger generation to encourage them to act with courage and tackle any difficult situations.
  • To celebrate this event, a nation wide “Painting Competition” is being organised across 500 different Kendriya Vidyalaya’s under “Pariksha Pe Charcha 2023.”

About Subhash Chandra Bose

  • He was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, Odisha in a large Bengali family in Odisha during the British raj.
  •  To prepare for the Indian civil service examination, he was sent by his parents to England’s University of Cambridge.
  • He became the President of “Indian National Congress” (INC) in 1939 and later formed the “All India Forward Bloc.”
  • The term “Jai Hind” was coined by Subhash Chandra Bose.
  • He founded and renamed the “Indian National Army” (INA) as “Azad Hind Fauj” on 21 October 1943 in Singapore.
  •  His famous slogan – “Tum mujhe khoon do, mai tumhe azadi doonga (You give me blood, I will give you freedom)” motivate the Indians with patriotism during the freedom struggle.
  • He died on August 18, 1945 in a plane crash in Taiwan.

  • on 23 January 2021, the Bengal Govt, has decided to rename the “Majerhat bridge” in Kolkata to Jai Hind bridge. Length –650 meter
  • Subhash Chandra Bose Museum is located in Kolkata.
