PM Addresses 108th Indian Science Congress: The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addresses the 108th edition of the “Indian Science Congress (ISC) 2023 via video-conferencing. This year, the Indian National Congress was held in Nagpur (Maharashtra) from 3 to 7 January 2023.  The focal theme of this year’s is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment.” The key highlight of ISC is sustainable development with inclusive involvement of all sections of society including women.

  • The 5-day long Indian Science Congress (ISC) was inaugurated at the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari & Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were present in the conference.
  • Inaugurating the 108th Indian Science Congress Mr. Modi stressed on strengthening scientific processes, focus on emerging areas such as quantum technologies, data sciences
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the vision for science for the next 25 years, urging researchers to make the country self-reliant and focus on converting their knowledge to bring about change in everyday life.
  • The Prime Minister also highlighted the opportunities for private companies and startups by associating with research labs and academic institutions.
  • He also stated the development in scientific means by saying that India jumped 40th in 2022 from 81st in 2015 in the Global Innovation Index.

  • The inaugural session of the ISC was held in 1914 in Calcutta with the focal theme About Indian Congress.
  • The Previous session was held in 2020 in Bengaluru with the focal theme Science & Technology: Rural Development.
